EU compares dependency on Russia and China
EU is highly dependen ton China for supplies for Green transition strategy. While China is a key partner for the EU, it is also a systemic rival with a increasingly competition in the world. The bloc is more reliant on Beijing for its green transition than it is on Russian energy.
The EU intends to become climate-neutral by 2050, while cutting net greenhouse emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The China´s dominio of fabrication of supplies and key commodities in this sector makes more difficult to reduce its dependence.
Relations between the EU and China have been marred by a number of disagreements. Brussels has repeatedly accused China of human rights abuses. Chinese officials have also protested against recent visits by several European lawmakers to Taiwan.
